Recommendations for individuals concerned in obtaining ISO/IEC 20000 consultant certificate

 

 

As the itSMF is the owner of ISO/IEC 20000 certification schema and our members are experienced in certification from both certified and certifying point of view, we have prepared the following recommendations for candidates:

1. Familiarise yourself in detail with the requirements of ISO/IEC20000 - Part 1: Specification for Service Management. If you have not done it yet, get familiar with ITIL content. We recommend gaining Foundation certificate at least.
2. Consider what type of certification is you need – whether  auditor or consultant certification. The activities of consultant and auditor are conflicting and it is impossible to perform both of them without the conflict of interest. Such behaviour is explicitly prohibited by the standard. An Auditor is member of an organisation registered among Registered Certification Bodies performing the audit as such. A Consultant is either an employee of audited organisation or organisation providing advisory or training prior to the audit.
3. Next step would be to choose an Accredited Course Provider (ACP). See the list on http://www.isoiec20000certification.com/lookuplist.asp?Type=8.
4. ACP that offers ISO/IEC 2000 Consultant Certificate course is obliged to act upon rules defined by itSMF, and first of all these organizations must respect a mandatory qualification scheme, see http://www.isoiec20000certification.com/qualification/index.asp.
5. The two parts Certification Exam a the mandatory part of accredited course, This exam consist of::
   1. Multiple Choice Question part – questionnaire,selection answers from a list
   2. Written Assignment – free text, answer the questions based on provided case study

The second part is very similar to itSMF Manager’s Certificate V2 written exam. Although it is not a prerequisite, candidate with experiences in the ITSM Manager’s Certificate V2 exam will be at an advantage. In order to pass, candidate must answer more than 50% of the questions correctly in each part and more than 65% of the questions correctly from both parts together. ACP is obliged to announce you the results within 6 weeks from the date of your exam. In case of fail, it is possible to ask for repeating either the whole exam or one of parts.
